In early 2017, the International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) determined that there is sufficient evidence to support that welding fume is a human lung carcinogen (cancer causing agent), which is capable of causing cancer in living tissue. According to Robert Bonack, OSHAs area director in Appleton, “50,000 welders die annually from exposure to chromium, which is a poisonous substance contained in welding fumes produced in stainless and alloy steel plants”. This gives us a vivid understanding of the danger surrounding the inhalation of fumes.
Welding fumes can cause serious health problems for welding operators when inhaled, it contains potentially harmful complex metal oxide compounds from consumables, base metal and the base-metal coatings.
The South African Institute of Welding (SAIW), with the full support of the South African Bureau of Standards (SABS) and the Department of Manpower, coordinated the establishment of a Code of Practice on Welding and Cutting under health and safety. This was published as SABS 0238: 1991 Welding and thermal cutting processes under health and safety. Currently in South Africa, the SABS 0238: 1991 have been withdrawn and replaced with SABS 0238: 1998 also aimed at protecting and monitoring the health and safety of welders in the country.
Correspondingly, in the new Mine, Health and Safety Act (Act No. 29 of 1996), there is an occupational hygiene regulations published in 2002 that include an extensive listing of occupational exposure limits for airborne pollutants including welding fume. The new enforcement legislation require all businesses undertaking welding activities to ensure that effective engineering controls are provided and used correctly to control fume arising from welding activities.
FilterBox series are mobile filtration units designed for welding fumes and dust extraction in spaces where light to medium welding operations occur.
Our FilterBox has advanced filter control systems with automatic cleaning that starts when airflow is too low. The automatic and mechanical cleaning features of our FilterBox series makes them one of a kind in the market.
FilterBox supplied by Envirox can easily be maneuvered and can provide additional protection from other particles when HEPA filters are installed.
FilterCart series are specially designed fume and dust extraction in workspaces where light to medium welding processes take place.
Our FilterCarts are mobile, which makes it easy to move from one working area to another. This guarantees you at-source welding protection from welding fumes irrespective of where your welding operation is taking place.
FilterCarts supplied by Envirox comes with an extraction arm and can be applied with HEPA filter for maximum efficiency.
Original Extraction Arm Installation
Our welding fume original extraction arm is suitable in extracting welding fumes, smokes and dusts immediately as they are produced. The original extraction arm has an integrated hood system that facilitates effective fume extraction.
A swivel which suspends the extraction arm makes it easy to maneuver. It can be rotated in 360 degrees without any hitch.
The original Extraction Arm supplied by Envirox is available in lengths from 2 meters to 4 meters. It can be mounted on a ceiling, wall, bench or an extension bracket to make movement very easy for your welding operator.
